Avalon Travel Publishing has just released the 9th edition of Moon Fiji, the original travel guide to the Fiji Islands. This new edition has grown from 385 to 419 pages. There are 53 maps including a new map of the Malolo Group. Many of the 170 photos are new, and the color section at the front of the book has been expanded to 24 pages. This edition I took special care to update the chapters on Northern Fiji, especially Labasa, Savusavu, and Taveuni. The getting around information has changed considerably as one major airline ceased to operate since the 8th edition and many shipping routes have been abandoned. In their place, new operators have emerged. The resort scene continues to develop and all of the listings have been updated.
If you haven’t used one of my guidebooks before, I can assure you that facilities in all price ranges are included with exact prices quoted. I’m always on the lookout for the best deals and low budget food and accommodations are not overlooked. I don’t accept freebies from suppliers and you can rest assured there’s nothing in this guidebook intended to repay hospitality.
I hope you find the expanded advance planning sections useful. Each chapter begins with a list of highlights marked on a map and Must See and Top Pick attractions are coded throughout the text. The back of the book provides thorough coverage of Fiji’s history and environment, and there are numerous leads on flights and tours to give you a wide choice of ways to go. Glossaries allow you to experiment with speaking Hindi and Fijian, and a thorough index pulls the entire guide together. I hope you find Moon Fiji useful!
